Welcome to our Leaf Panel Free Motion Quilt along!

I hope you’ll jump in and Quilt along with us!  all classes are able to be watched over and over again so you can take in the concepts as little or as much as you need to. Life is busy.. so quilt on your schedule when you can enjoy it!

The borders that I have on my panel will be covered as a piecing only portion of the class you’ll have a video for how to make and add the borders but we will NOT cover how to free motion quilt them. I am really looking forward to seeing how you all quilt the ribbon mountain border and what you come up with. I am so excited!

Participating in a Themed (in this case the Hoffman Leaf Panel) quilt along, can give you so much information and really prepare you for quilting other projects, and best of all putting the information to the test from the conception of a project to the finishing touches, can really help the concepts of FMQ to sink in. so whether you’re an avid quilter or new to FMQ I know there is something in here for you!

Materials you’ll need for the class:

  • 1 Hoffman Dream Big Leaf Panel
  • 4 yards backing fabric (if you’re doing the panel only you’ll take that backing cut into 2-2yard pieces and sew selvedges together to get you 72×84 inch backing more than big enough for your pane and you can even add some borders if you like)
  • 2 yards Batting of your choice
  • **Optional simple borders: (you can do some simple square borders around your panel a small onet 3.5″ cut (buy 1 yard), and 6.5 inches cut (buy 1.5 yards) and will give you one small 3 inch border around your panel and one 6 inch border around your panel.
  • Matching Threads for your panel
  • thread snips
  • sewing machine (longarm, midarm or domestic)
  • Lots of wound bobbins (match your cones of thread or buy prewounds to match your backing fabric)if you intend to piece the fancy borders and  IF YOU WANT TO DO BORDERS LIKE MINE YOU CAN ORDER BORDER KITS  in the products Section
(if you do borders like mine your panel will be 74″ square so account for that in your backing and batting choices you’ll need more like 5 yards backing to work it properly. and 2.25 yards batting, I don’t have specific yardages for colors listed here because they can vary based on how you color your borders. However in the class materials you have the full pattern and can adjust the fabrics you need for each color listed border by border for the panel I have shown.)
  • Pencil
  • Paper (printer if you’ll be printing out the PDF worksheets)
  • you’ll need a computer to take the class and stream the videos.
